Highly detailed arrangements use the sound of the flamenco guitar as well as mysterious samples, pulsating beats and sad melodies. In ROME’s songs there lives a stoic sense of the melodramatic. As well as Cohen, one must look to icons such as Tom Waits and late Johnny Cash in order to be able to describe the lyrics and voice of Jerome Reuter.
"Flowers from Exile" is just as much an emotional as a critical work. The personally stamped album of a modern singer-songwriter which tells of journeys both within and without. Jerome Reuter’s moving vocals and Patrick Damiani’s complex musical arrangements leave the musical roots of folk far behind and send these "Flowers from Exile" to all listeners who are willing and capable of feeling the dignity, the hope and the pride behind the lyrics and who are prepared to recognise themselves in those restless spirits whom the twelve part song cycle conjures up. Into the heart…

Die Weisse Rose - A Martyrium Of White Roses [2009]

1 A Martyrium Of White Roses (5:52)
2 Im Nebel (1:17)
3 The Solitary Volcano (5:00)
4 Letzter Wille (4:33)
5 Unser Leben Geht Dahin Wie Ein Geschwätz (5:15)
6 At The Doorsteps Of Our Temple (5:59)
7 Nicht Schuldig (4:38)
8 As The Last Of The Petals Are Shattered (4:40)

It might seem strange that a band without a single release to its name has played concerts
and festivals all over Europe. But anyone who has ever experienced Die Weisse Rose on stage
knows why.
More than concerts, Die Weisse Rose's performances are elaborate rituals, caleidoscopic (or
even psychedelic) experiences. Elements such as uniforms, burning torches, snippets of old
schla"gers, segments from documentary films and philosophical proclamations are wowen
together by orgies of live drums and electronic sounds.
Die Weisse strives towards what Wagner called "Gesamtkunstwerke" - total works of art. When
most other bands talk about Gesamtkunstwerke, it sounds pretentious. When Die Weisse Rose do
it, it makes sense.
Die Weisse Rose also like to think of their songs as "audiodocumentaries". Again, such a
seemingly pretentious term makes sense, as Die Weisse Rose's art is just as indebted to the
History Channel as to Throbbing Gristle.
To bolster Die Weisse Rose's lineup (which really consists only of the band's mastermind,
Thomas Bojden) over the years the unit has recruited collaborators to its ranks that makes
DWR smack of an Industrial supergroup. From Marco Deplano (Foresta di Ferro), Gerhard
(Allerseelen), Kim Larsen (Of the Wand and the Moon) to name but a few.
In return, Thomas Bojden has returned the favour and played with a who's who of of the
Industrial and Neofolk underground, from well-established outfits like Rome, Blood Axis and
Foresta Di Ferro to up-and-coming Austrian neofolk band Klammheim.
Now, Die Weisse Rose are for the first time available on record. If you fear that we have
another "martial" clone band on our hands, prepare to be pleasantly surprised. The music is
painstakingly crafted and orchestrated to perfection to include electronic elements, field
recordings and real instruments, and its creative merits really stand out in an underground
culture where bands of far lesser talents than Die Weisse Rose would release three albums in
the time Die Weisse Rose have patiently worked on theirs.
Let one thousand white roses bloom, as Die Weisse Rose unleashes "A Martyrium Of White
Roses".

Welcome to the Thunderdome. Troum’s bone-cracking reverberations respirate with such ferocity that all non-Troum molecules are blown away. Eald-Ge-Streon is a massive, rising beauty. It is a great becoming, and we are nothing but an ant in the afterbirth. Troum has set its controls beyond the heart of the Sunn. The pulsating inferno of these 7 drone concertos may require an insurance adjuster, but what a lovely way to burn. It is in your nature to do one thing correctly. Before Troum, you rightly tremble. But fear is not what you owe Troum. You owe Troum awe!

Sorc'henn - Harmonium Pieces and Dead Reveries (2007)

Sorc'henn are emerging as one of the more interesting and unique entities in the drone/dark ambient underground. They create dreamy, organic sounding drones and loops, this is their first full-length that was released in a very limited quantity of CDrs. This one's quite simple and lo-fi, however enjoyable all the same.

Rome - To Die Among Strangers (EP) [2009]

1 To Die Among Strangers (4:14)
2 Reversion (Edit) (4:45)
3 Wir Götter Der Stadt (Edit) (5:16)
4 Mourir A Madrid (9:15)

News from the orchards of ROME. With their works inspired by expressionist literature and the feeling of departure of the early 20th Century, ROME has made quite a name for itself in the european underground.

Within only 3 years ROME have released their debut EP and three full-length albums. ROME’s music is steeped in melancholy, loss and despair and a sacred solitude that is defined by the detachment from all political and religious systems.

As a teaser to the upcoming album ROME now announces the release of the EP „To Die Among Strangers“, limited to 999 copies and sold only via mailorders. The EP features a single from the album, the remixes of two classic ROME tracks „Reversion“ und „Wir Götter der Stadt“ and an exclusive dark ambient track which perfectly evokes the theme of exile so characteristical of the upcoming album.

ROME proves yet again that they have created a unique brand of apocalyptic folk with subtle lyrics, a haunting voice, melodic guitar work and a sound coming from the nebulous depths of European history.

" I am the first to admit that the MP3 format is not the best way to enjoy
this music, but I have worked with the mastering quite hard to make the

Spread it as much as you want - seed, copy, burn etc... sharing is caring.

it up:
Support what is good and worth supporting (small independent labels are

Celer - Discourses of The Withered [2008]

1.This Thinking Globe Exploding (14:19)
2.The Carved God Is Gone; Waking Above The Pileus Clouds(12:51)
3.Stargazing Lily Lacks The Flower (10:55)
4.A Crush, A Hero-Worship & Hyperrealism (5:51)
5.The Separation Of The Two-Phased Apple Blossoms (8:50)
6.Delaying The Entropy; In Emptiness, Forms Are Born (14:26)

Celer is a husband (Will) and wife (Danielle) duo from California that use a variety of strings as the basis for their sound. Cello, viola, violin and the sounds are mixed in with field recordings, choir. live theremin and then tape spliced and re-assembled in varying lengths to create a loop base. Those sounds are then sampled, layered and processed. The result is a shimmering orchestra. Periods of silence between the notes only enhance the sound. Though at times very haunting, it's brightly hazy ambient. Initially "Discourses..." was to be 1 full-length CD with a bonus CDR ("The Everything and the Nothing") to accompany the first 100 copies. When Celer presented the bonus material, with field recordings mixed in obtained by Danielle over several months in India, the quality of the material was so high that it was suggested and agreed to instead be a concurrent release of two full-length discs. Edition of 500.

A Wake A Week - Little Black Cloud [2009]

3 I'm Always Writing Endings (3:38)
4 Your Rain Isn't My Rain (3:23)

8 Beginnings And Endings (5:47)
9 Waking (2:41)
10 A Wake A Week (6:09)

A Wake A Week...do we never tire of these endless reruns of our grief? With this debut release from his new project, Dave Dando-Moore (Detritus) offers us an intensely composed symphony of unending sorrow. If Detritus is the debris of emotion, A Wake A Week is the tar-black residue still clinging like a parasite, clawing away at old wounds. Like ashes on celluloid, Little Black Cloud opens up a widescreen vista of sound, albeit sullied and decaying. Eschewing the polish and sterility that digital production can entail, the album embodies the crackle and spark of embers of a once-consuming fire, giving us an album that feels organic and alive. From the opening waves of House, the listener will submerged in cascades of suffocating, drowning synthesis. Capturing the very essence of heartache, each rumble and pulse pulls us deeper into a heart of darkness. Yet, there is beauty and hope shattering through this black firmament. Opening up the the instrumentation to such diverse timbres as neo-classical pianos, tranquilized guitar and the perfumed atmospherics of ethnic vocals, expectant warmth rises through the swathes of oppressive intensity. No artistic hubris is attempted here. This is as raw, open and confessional as music can get. Drawing comparisons with Max Richter, Deaf Center, Johann Johannsson and The Protagonist, A Wake A Wake will evoke cathartic exorcisms of woe in even the most glacial of hearts.

Miasma and the Carousel of Headless Horses - Manfauna (EP, 2007)

"Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses are a British instrumental quintet that plays dark, antiquated sounding music encompassing elements of Eastern European folk, avant-rock, broken-down calliope music, and neo-classical film composition. More a trip to an anachronistic world of neo-baroque psychedelia than a simple study in diced-up ecclecticism, the music on Perils sways between lush chamber orientated melancholia, apocalyptic bombast, and epic ghost train high-drama. Featuring members of Guapo, Aethenor, Chrome Hoof and Cathedral."

This Morn' Omina - Momentum of Singular Clarity (EP) [2009]

1 Momentum I (5:41)
2 Nuraghi (6:54)
3 Ananda (7:59)
4 Tellurian (7:02)
5 Momentum II (4:22)

Five years have passed since the self-contained 'drake equation'. this ep is also a stand-alone release - a stop between the second and the third part of the nyan trilogy. sal-ocin joined t.m.o. as a full member a few years ago and now the project is a trio with the inclusion of the live concert drummer spike.

this morn' omina created five tracks which combine rhythmic complexity with impulsive power and tuneful depth to aurally express mass and velocity of an object (=momentum). framed by the fast, pulsating floor burners momentum I and II, you will discover the melodic beauty of nuraghi, the tribal, symphonic darkness of ananda, and the slow, melancholic flow of tellurian. synthetic beats, acoustic percussion, sub-basses, atmospheric electronics and energetic vocals result in the uniqueness that this morn' omina stands for.

Wormsblood - In the Stars (2008)

Absolutely insane band. Describing this release is beyond me, so I refer you to the press release for the vinyl version below. It's pretty accurate.

"Hailing from grim Wisconsin, WORMSBLOOD have honed their craft since 2002 on solstice and eclipse. They create "BLOOD SORCERY = Progressive Blackened Stenchcore". "In the stars" is a tumultous sonic cauldron overflowing with elements of true metal, noise, black metal, field recordings, free folk and eye of newt. Littered with occult references and clearly a work of some intelligence, "In the stars" baffles the listener as it drags them through the bleak Oshkosh woods in a lysergic Wild Hunt: from the ritual / field recording sounds of primitive percussion and the united voices of animal and man that give way to epic riffing and the deranged vocals of opener "Thundercall", its clear that these kids didn't have a lot of friends at school.

Sabbath-esque riffs, putrid thrashing, animal howls, primitive blast beats, cheap keyboards, broken throat vocals, necro production, guitar solos, abyssic noise, and a theatrical sensibility for the epic make WORMSBLOOD defy attempts to pigeon hole. Nay, they take the pigeon, sacrifice it on a primitive wooden altar to the spirits unknown and stuff the corpse in your hole. "Outsider Black Metal" seems to be the best match, but "In the stars" is so much more." - Aurora Borealis

Xela - The Illuminated (Cassette + Vinyl) [2008/2009]

A Black Scripture (19:57)
B Gilted Rose (19:57)

"The Illuminated" was originally released on cassette, a format very fitting to the gloomy, waterlogged sounds; but having sold out in a matter of days it now recieves the much needed deluxe re-issue treatment. Taking cues from the cracked black metal of Burzum and Striborg and fusing this with heavy, synthesized noise "The Illuminated" is possibly Xela's darkest, most spine-chilling work to date. We are taken through chiming Nurse With Wound-inspired soundscapes into Middle Eastern marketplaces and through caverns of thick, buzzing synthesized noise on the album's first piece. Entitled "Black Scripture" this takes the dank religious themes of "In Bocca Al Lupo" and goes even deeper into the Church dungeons, digging up lost artifacts and the angry spirits that accompany them. The flipside extends this heresy with a throaty vocal and distorted electric guitar, leaving blackened corpses and the traces of a sleepy village in its wake. Devastating and dark material, listen if you dare...

"In this the signs shall be those of Set triumphant and of Baphomet. Also shall Set appear in the circle. Let him drink of the sacrament and let him communicate the same."

Svarte Greiner - Penpals Forever [2008]

A1 Untitled (11:02)
A2 Silence (5:12)
A3 Untitled (8:54)
B Untitled (13:59)

*STRICTLY LIMITED EDITION - 150 COPIES ONLY FOR THE WORLD!!!* Deaf Center sound sculptor Erik K. Skodvin caps off his recent bout of activity with this now sold-out-at-source cassette from Digitalis' limited edition series. Don't let that oddly cheery title fool you: Penpals Forever is an auditory grimoire of disturbing soundscapes and blurred dissonances. As we've come to expect from such a skilled electronic composer as Skodvin there's an intangibility and fluidity that hides the seams of this music's construction, burying just about any clearly defined instrumental element and casting it into a pool of analogue hiss. As with any music this mysterious and furtive it's bound to carry all manner of subconscious connotations, suggestive of nocturnal spaces, coastal, wave-like motions and cavernous depths, you feel as though you're being taken on a tour of dark corners and abandoned, desolate locales. Although not nearly as explicitly intricate as his Knive debut album, Penpals Forever maintains the gloomy brilliance of Svarte Greiner's career to date, and delivers a piece of music that aligns wonderfully with the characterful, lo-fi eeriness the cassette format can so aptly lend itself to. Amazing stuff - A real collectors item. - Boomkat
